Columbus Catholic soccer knocks off Amherst

AMHERST – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team took a big step toward another Central Wisconsin Conference title with a 5-2 win over Amherst on Thursday at Amherst High School.

The Dons improve to 7-0 in the CWC, while Amherst drops into a tie for second place at 5-2 in the conference.

Alex Edwards scored on a penalty kick just 1:36 into the game, and added two more goals before halftime as the Dons took command with a 3-1 lead by halftime.

Cy Becker and Edwards scored late to finish off the victory as Columbus Catholic moves to 12-2-2 overall.

Columbus hosts Northland Lutheran for another CWC game Monday at Griese Park in Marshfield. Game time is 5 p.m.
