Marshfield boys hockey nets two third-period goals to beat Altoona at Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament

MARSHFIELD – Cole Irish and Austin Littmann scored goals in the third period to lift the Marshfield boys hockey team to a 4-2 win over Altoona in the second round of the Andrew Thiel Memorial Hockey Tournament on Tuesday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.

The Tigers improve to 2-7 on the season and snap a five-game losing streak in the process.

Marshfield fell behind 1-0 early but Schuyler Seyfert scored at the 3:37 mark of the first period to tie the game.

The Tigers pulled ahead on a goal by Littmann at the 9:23 mark of the second period only to see the Railroaders (3-3-2) tie it back up when Justin Jinkins scored a little less than four minutes later.

Irish scored 3:44 into the third period, off an assist by Tylan Schreiner, for what proved to be the game-winner. Littmann added his second goal of the game with 5:44 to go.

Mac Alboreo had 31 saves for the Tigers, who play Chippewa Falls McDonell (3-8-1) at 3 p.m. Wednesday to wrap up the tournament.

In other games Tuesday, Oshkosh beat McDonell 6-3 and DeForest ripped Fox Cities 9-4.

DeForest plays Oshkosh at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by Fox Cities and Altoona at 12:30 p.m.
