WAUPACA – Marshfield earned three top-5 individual finishes at the Waupaca Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Waupaca High School.
Thomas Cashmer ran his best race of the season for Marshfield, taking third in the boys race in 17:24.1, 16.9 seconds ahead of teammate Owen Hoerneman, who took fourth in 17:41.0. Natalie Scharenbroch grabbed a fourth-place finish in the girls 5-kilometer run in 20:22.5 to lead the way for Marshfield at the eight-team meet.
Winneconne won the boys team title with 48 points, just four better than Appleton Xavier. Marshfield was sixth in 123.
Xavier rolled to the girls team title as it had its five top runners earn no worse than 10th, including winner Lilie Fouts (19:01.1). Marshfield was fourth.
Adeline Lonsdale was 22nd (22:47.6), Miriam McKee 23rd (22:50.8) and Carolina Sullenger 25th (22:58.0) as well for the Tigers.
Marshfield will take some time off before competing at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational on Oct. 7 at Ridges Golf Course in its final regular-season meet of the year.
