SPENCER – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team snapped a 16-game losing streak, earning its first victory of the season with a hard-fought 29-22 win over Nekoosa in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division game Friday night at Spencer High School.

Landon Behselich ran for 133 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the way for the Rockets, who are now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the CWC Large after posting their first victory since Oct. 2021.

Behselich scored from the 1 for the only score of the first quarter.

Behselich had a 63-yard touchdown run and Logan Ehlert added a 7-yard score to give Spencer a 23-16 lead going into halftime.

Nekoosa (2-5, 1-4 CWC Large) scored in the third quarter, but missed a two-point conversion that would have given them the lead, and the Rockets were able to ice the win by shutting out the Papermakers in the fourth quarter and Behselich adding another 1-yard touchdown run.

Mac Konieczny added 80 yards rushing for the Rockets, who racked up 284 yards on the ground.

Spencer/Columbus will play at Manawa next Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
