Marshfield’s three participants lose first matches at WIAA Division 1 girls tennis sectional

EAU CLAIRE – All three Marshfield qualifiers exited after first-round matches at the WIAA Division 1 girls tennis sectional at the Menard Tennis Center on Wednesday.

The top four finishers at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and sectional champions at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, qualify for the 2023 WIAA Girls Tennis State Individual Tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Oct. 12-14.

Eau Claire Memorial, which won the team points standings, earns a spot at the 2023 WIAA Girls Tennis State Team Tournament, also at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, on Oct. 20-21.

Marshfield’s No. 2 singles player Lillian Grisebach lost her semifinal match to Katelyn Anderson of Eau Claire Memorial, 6-1, 6-0, and the Tigers’ No. 4 singles player Ashley Grancorvitz lost to Isabel Sorenson of Menomonie 6-2, 6-2 in a semifinal.

Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Sophia Morrell and Ava Paape, both seniors, lost to Livy Parrett and Olivia Zavaleta of Eau Claire Memorial 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
