Columbus Catholic soccer shuts out Pacelli, clinches CWC title as Edwards breaks school goals record

MARSHFIELD – Alex Edwards scored three first-half goals to earn a school record for goals as the Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team whipped Stevens Point Pacelli/Iola-Scandinavia 8-0 and clinched its third-straight Central Wisconsin Conference title in a match Thursday at Griese Park.

Edwards’ third goal, at the 23:19 mark, was the 143rd of his career and he surpassed Nadim Torbey for as Columbus’ all-time leading goal scorer.

The Dons are now 10-0 in the Central Wisconsin Conference with two matches remaining next week. Pacelli/Iola-Scandinavia drops to 5-4.

Cade Jansen, Xan Rodriguez, Nathan Nemitz, Josh VanWyhe and Ezra Duda added goals for the Dons (15-2-2 overall).

Columbus hosts La Crosse Aquinas in a nonconference match Saturday at 2 p.m. at Griese Park.
