Marshfield volleyball wins two of three matches at second Wisconsin Valley Conference meet

WESTON – The Marshfield girls volleyball team suffered its first conference loss of the season and fell out of first place for the time being at the second Wisconsin Valley Conference meet of the year Saturday at D.C. Everest High School.

Marshfield defeated Wausau West 25-21, 25-9, 25-11, before falling to D.C. Everest 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 18-25. The Tigers came back to sweep Stevens Point 25-16, 25-13, 25-18.

D.C. Everest is now 10-1 in the WVC and Marshfield moves to 9-1 with the regular season wrapping up this week.

D.C. Everest hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday to finish its conference season. Marshfield will have two matches this week, playing at Merrill on Tuesday and at home against Wausau East on Thursday with a chance to pull even with the Evergreens and grab a share of the WVC championship.

Abby Ongna had 53 kills and 28 digs, Ashlyn Barwick had 32 digs and setter Kailyn Kurth had 99 assists, five aces and 30 digs for the Marshfield in its three matches.

Lauren Homolka added 21 kills, nine aces and nine blocks, Grace Taylor had 15 kills and 24 digs, Casey Dasler had six aces, and Alyssa Foemmel had 11 kills as well for the Tigers.
