SPENCER – Phillips swept the boys and girls team titles at the 2023 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Frey Field.
The Phillips boys won its third-straight conference title, while the girls snapped Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s run of three in a row.
The Stratford girls finished fourth and the boys were fifth, while the Auburndale girls took sixth and boys ended up eighth among the nine teams.
Phillips’ Gavin Esterholm won the boys race in 16:28.8, 10 seconds ahead of Stratford’s Cree DeFoe.
Auburndale’s top boys finisher was Sawyer Cherney, who took 27th in 18:49.2.
Chequamegon’s Autumn Michalski was the girls champion, winning the 5-kilometer race in 17:29.0, 30 seconds in front of Lucy Dolan of Assumption.
Kayla Casperson finished eighth in 20:39.9 and Kressa Wenzel was 12th in 21:03.6 for Stratford.
Rose Hasenohrl earned a top-20 finish for the Auburndale girls, taking 18th in 21:44.5.
Auburndale and Stratford will compete at the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet at Colby High School on Saturday, Oct. 21. The boys race starts at 10:30 a.m. and the girls at 11:30 a.m.
