Columbus Catholic boys soccer blanks Adams-Friendship in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

MARSHFIELD – Alex Edwards had a hat trick and assisted on three more goals to lead Marshfield Columbus Catholic to a dominating 8-0 win over Adams-Friendship in a WIAA Division 4 boys soccer regional semifinal Thursday at Griese Park.

The Dons outshot Adams-Friendship 13-1, with eight finding the back of the net, to earn a spot in a D-4 regional final at home against Central Wisconsin Conference rival Amherst on Saturday.

Cade Jansen and Alex Edwards scored in the opening two minutes and Columbus poured in four more goals before halftime to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Charlie Moore and Mason Edwards added goals in the first nine minutes of the second half to finish the scoring for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic (18-4-2) will need to defeat Amherst (15-7) for the third time this season to grab a spot in next week’s sectionals. The Dons won conference matches over Amherst 1-0 and 5-2 this season. Saturday’s game at Griese Park starts at 1 p.m.
