Columbus Catholic volleyball rolls past Loyal in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team swept Cloverbelt Conference rival Loyal 3-0 on Thursday night in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons dominated, winning 25-22, 25-9, 25-16, to move on to a D-4 regional final on Saturday at home against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran. The match will start at 7 p.m.

Mattea Schalfke led a strong defensive performance with 21 digs to the Dons. She also had four kills and three blocks.

Aaliyah Krenn had a team-high 24 kills, Alayna Egle had 19 assists, and Courtney Sommer had nine kills, five blocks and 16 assists for Columbus Catholic.

The winner of Saturday’s regional final will take on the winner of Athens and Stevens Point Pacelli in a Division 4 sectional semifinal next Thursday, Oct. 26.
