MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Marshfield evened its record at 3-3 this season with a 77-62 win over UW-Stevens Point Wausau in a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Marauder Gym.

The Marauders built a 16-6 lead in the first seven minutes. The Huskies were able to find the bottom of the net on a few 3-pointers over the next six minutes closing the gap to 22-16.

In what would turn out to be a stretch of runs by both teams, Owen Hanson and Prince Nde were able to get hot leading the Marauders out to a 35-23 lead with 1:30 left in the half.

A costly turnover at the end of the first half and back-to-back 3-pointers from Wausau closed the game to 37-31 at half.

Hanson was able to continue to dominate inside and when he wasn’t scoring, he was finding the open guy.

The Huskies made one last effort to get back in the game after again hitting multiple outside shots, but Marshfield’s Sam Everson put that fire out quickly with six points on thre- straight possessions. From there, the Marauders’ defense held the Huskies the just two points, which came from a pair of free throws, over the last 4:30 of the game.

Hanson (Marshfield) led the way with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Nde (Woodbury, Minn.) followed that up with a season-high 18 points and nine rebounds, Everson (Menasha) added 12 and Jake Skroch (Stratford) finished nine points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Marauders.

Marshfield (3-1 WCC) travels to UW-Platteville Baraboo on Monday and to Ironwood, Mich., on Wednesday to take on Gogebic Community College for a non-conference battle to close out the semester.
