Stratford girls basketball uses first-half surge to defeat Spencer

SPENCER – Stratford rolled out to a big double-digit lead by halftime and were able to hold on from there, defeating Spencer 62-47 in a nonconference girls basketball game Monday night at Spencer High School.

The Tigers led 35-19 at halftime and Spencer was unable to make a dent in the lead at the end.

Kayla Casperson scored 16 points, Tria Tubbs had 11 and Laney Pankratz chipped in 10 in the win for Stratford, which improves to 4-2.

Autumn Davis was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line and scored a game-high 23 points for Spencer (1-3). Montana Kohls made three 3-pointers and added 11 points in the loss.

Spencer travels to Throp for a nonconference game Tuesday before playing a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Colby on Thursday.

Stratford’s next game in Thursday at home against Wausau Newman Catholic in a Marawood Conference South Division contest.
