AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale wrestling team had three individual champions and 10 top-five finishers to place second at its home Auburndale Invitational on Saturday.
Marathon finished with 494 points, with Auburndale a close second with 418 points. Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton placed 13th out of the 15 teams at the tournament.
Truxton Becker (106 pounds), Zade Grassel (126) and Colton Weiler (144) won titles for Auburndale.
Becker went 4-0 in round-robin competition at 106. Grassel (14-3) won the 126-pound championship match with a 5-3 overtime win over previously undefeated Levi Krautkramer of Marathon. Weiler improved to 17-0 with a 16-1 technical fall win in the 144-pound title match.
Wyatt Malson (157) and Derek Godard (120) finished second, and Trevor Trowbridge (132), Coleman Becker (138) and Tanner Wargowsky (150) earned third-place finishes for the Eagles.
Spencer/Columbus/Catholic/Granton had three top-six finishes as Mason Dieringer was second at 190 pounds, Sam Helgestad fifth at 175, and Jakob Soback sixth at 190.
Auburndale will host Eau Claire Memorial and Pittsville for a triangular meet on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton also returns to action Thursday at the Rhinelander Invitational.
