Marshfield boys hockey pulls away late to defeat Rhinelander

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored three times in the final 20 minutes to pull past Rhinelander 4-1 in a nonconference boys hockey game Thursday night at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

Following a scoreless first period, Marshfield’s Jack Mattila and Rhinelander’s Timber Cronauer matched goals before the Tigers took control.

Tyler Reissmann scored with 2:43 to go in the second period, Joey Cashmer added a goal midway through the third, and Reissmann finished off the victory with another goal with 1:20 to go to lead the Tigers (5-7) to the win.

Zak Meyer had two assists, and Reissmann, Tanner Shortt and Owen Hoerneman also had assists in the win for Marshfield.

Reed Gieseking had 25 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield will compete at the Culver’s Cup in Madison on Dec. 27-29. The Tigers open play against Cedarburg at 5 p.m. Dec. 27 at the Hartmeyer Ice Arena.
