Marshfield boys hockey edges Northland Pines at Culver’s Cup

MADISON – The Marshfield boys hockey team pulled out a 3-2 win over Northland Pines in its second game of the Culver’s Cup on Thursday at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.

Tyler Reissmann scored the short-handed game-winner for the Tigers (6-8) with 6:17 left the third period to even their record at 1-1 in the three-day tournament.

Judd Higgins and Jack Mattila had goals in the second period for Marshfield before Julian Merschdorf tied it for Northland Pines on a power play and the game headed into the final period at 2-2.

Reissmann nailed the go-ahead goal and Marshfield’s defense was able to hold off the Eagles the rest of the way.

Reed Gieseking had 36 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield will play for fifth place at the tournament at 1 p.m. Friday at the Madison Ice Arena against either Ashland or Monona Grove.
