MARSHFIELD – In what looked like a game that was going to go down to the wire, Hudson had another idea.

Trailing by three at halftime, Hudson scored the first 17 points of the second half and went on to a 61-42 victory over Marshfield in a first-round game at the Marshfield Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

The Raiders scored the final basket of the first half and the first 17 of the second to take control as Marshfield’s offense went silent.

The Tigers (8-2) see their winning streak end at seven with the home loss.

Marshfield trailed for the first 10 minutes before using an 11-0 run to take a 21-14 lead. Zaida Kolbeck had five points and Ashley Grancorvitz four in the run for the Tigers.

Grancorvitz, who finished with a team-high 20 points, scored with 1:30 to go before Hudson’s Ella Carstensen responded, making it 23-20 in favor of Marshfield at halftime.

The Tigers missed their first eight shots of the second half as Hudson made five of seven to take control.

Ella Wolfe had a three-point play and Olivia Grothaus nailed two 3-pointers as Hudson ripped off the 17-0 run to go ahead 37-23.

Emma Ridgway ended the run for Marshfield, and Kolbeck had two free throws, but in all, Hudson had a 31-4 run through the first 10 minutes of the second half. Devin Larson hit two more 3-pointers for the Raiders, who started the second half 12-for-15 from the field.

Grancorvitz scored eight points in the final six minutes for the Tigers, who could not get any closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Grothaus, Carstensen and Wolfe each scored 14 points for Hudson (8-3).

Oshkosh West defeated Wausau West 78-43 in the other first-round game Thursday.

The tournament concludes Friday with Hudson and Wausau West playing at 1 p.m. and Marshfield taking on Oshkosh West at 2:30 p.m.
