Marshfield boys hockey blanks Wausau East/Merrill to pick up first WVC win

MERRILL – The Marshfield boys hockey team snagged its first Wisconsin Valley Conference win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Wausau East/Merrill on Thursday at the Smith Multi-Purpose Center.

Reed Gieseking saved all 26 shots he saw in goal for Marshfield, which improves to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Tommy Cashmer scored with 36 seconds to go in the first period for Marshfield and its slim lead held until the final minute of the third period when Tyler Reissmann and Judd Higgins scored to finish off the victory.

Marshfield hosts Baldwin-Woodville on Monday and Mosinee on Tuesday in a pair of nonconference games at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.
