WESTON – Stratford had three individual champions and six runner-ups as it won the team title at the 11-team Fred Lehrke Wrestling Invitational on Saturday at D.C. Everest High School.
The Tigers finished with 419 points, holding off host D.C. Everest (370) for the team title. Auburndale had a pair of champions and placed fourth, while Spencer/Columbus Catholic took 10th in the standings.
Colin Cournoyer (27-6) won the 120-pound championship, defeating Lakota Brewer of Riverdale 7-3; Aaron Knetter (23-8) was the 132-pound winner as he pinned Trevor Trowbridge of Auburndale in the final in 2:48; and Carter Lueck (35-1) won a 9-0 major decision over Carter McDaniel of Weyauwega-Fremont to earn the 175-pound title for Stratford.
Kolton Haupt (106), Roman Schmidt (113), Trenton Cournoyer (126), Brandon Knetter (150), Kaleb Krummel (157) and Noah Lucio (215) all finished second for the Tigers.
Auburndale’s two titles came from Derek Godard (28-4) at 113 pounds and Colton Weiler (31-1) at 144. Godard beat Stratford’s Schmidt by pin in 1:34 and Weiler defeated Cameron Finch of Tomah in the 144-pound final, 5-1.
In addition to Trowbridge’s runner-up finish, Truxton Becker (106), Zade Grassl (126) and Wyatt Malsin (157) all finished third for Auburndale.
Spencer/Columbus Catholic’s top finisher was Wyatt Karl, who placed third at 215 pounds to up his season record to 13-7. Gavin Andrew (120), Sam Helgestad (175) and Jakob Soback (190) each placed sixth for the Rockets.
Stratford also had top-five finishes from Jack Tubbs (third at 165), Drew Gage (fourth at 295) and Lucas Forrest (fifth at 144).
