Marshfield’s Gardner wins title at Queen of the Mat tournament

MARSHFIELD – Dozens of wrestlers from around the state participated in the inaugural Queen of the Mat girls high school wrestling tournament on Saturday at Marshfield High School.

Three local wrestlers earned top-two finishes.

Marshfield’s Ava Gardner won the 100-pound title, taking the round-robin division with a 3-0 record, all by pin.

Marshfield’s Erika Sleznikow placed second at 126 pounds, falling in the championship match to Dealya Collins of Mineral Point in sudden victory overtime 8-6.

Also placing second was Spencer/Columbus’ Azariah Hoffman, who reached the finals at 138 pounds before losing by pin to Ava Gilberg of Black River Falls in 4:44.
