Marshfield boys come back to beat Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Ryan Danczak scored 17 points and Cale Zuiker added 14 points as the Marshfield boys basketball team stayed in sole possession of first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a come-from-behind 59-50 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Friday.

The Tigers (11-3 overall, 6-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) trailed 33-28 at halftime as the Raiders hit seven of their 10 3-pointers in the opening 16 minutes.

Marshfield battled back with a 14-6 advantage in the third quarter and held off the Raiders (7-8, 3-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference) with solid free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter. The Tigers finished 12 of 17 from the line and held Wisconsin Rapids to just 17 points in the second half.

Elliott Ashbeck added 10 points for Marshfield.

The Tigers host Merrill in a nonconference game on Monday to start a week in which they will play three games. Marshfield hosts Rhinelander in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Tuesday, then travels to play at second-place Wausau West next Friday.
