MARSHFIELD – Marshfield sophomore Rebecca Voss braved a wet and sloppy track to finish 10th in the girls varsity race at the Columbus Catholic Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Wildwood Park.
Voss finished the race in 15:53, 46 seconds behind winner Emma-Lisa Murphy of Whitefish Bay.
Wayzata (Minn.) won the girls meet with 57 points, easily distancing itself from River Falls, which was second with 90 points. Whitefish Bay was third with 110 points. Marshfield took ninth with 266 points and Columbus Catholic was 22nd with 580 points. A total of 25 teams and 180 runners took part in the girls race.
Jennifer Kaiser was 52nd (17:00), Leah Cherney took 63rd (17:20), Sara Fuller was 69th (17:29) and Alexis Dzikowich finished 72nd (17:38) to lead the Tigers.
“The girls had some solid efforts for our first meet of the year,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “Leah Cherney and Alexis Dzikowich really ran well today and smashed their PRs on this course. Rebecca was a medalist and that was nice to see her start off her season that way.”
Claire Pinter led the Dons, taking 68th in 17:28.9.
Stillwater (Minn.) won the boys team title with 45 points, 15 more than Wayzata (Minn.). Marshfield finished 12th with 400 points and Columbus Catholic was 22nd with 632 points.
Josh Thorson of Wayzata won the boys race in 15:52, his third straight Columbus Catholic Invitational title.
Travis Wienke was 117th (20:00.6) and Jeremy Binder was 125th (20:09.5) for Columbus.
Adam Voss led Marshfield by finishing 35th in 17:35. Nolan Redetzke was 50th in 18:14.
“Adam Voss ran a great race for our boys today, as did Nolan Redetzke,” Akin said. “The competition was keen today and we will improve.”
