Marshfield girls basketball clamps down on Wausau East

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls basketball team forced 25 turnovers and held Wausau East to just nine made field goals in a 58-26 victory on Friday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers ran out to a 34-13 lead by halftime and held East to just 13 points in the second half as well on their way to the victory.

Marshfield improves to 9-11 overall and 5-6 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. East drops to 3-17 and remains winless in the WVC at 0-11.

Hannah Meverden had 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead Marshfield. Jenna Jakobi added 10 points for the Tigers, who had nine different players score in the win.

Marshfield finishes its regular-season schedule next week with a nonconference game at Menomonie on Tuesday and its WVC and home finale Thursday vs. Wausau West. The WIAA playoffs begins Feb. 20, with brackets set to be released on Sunday.
