Columbus Catholic softball rips Gibraltar, loses to Mishicot

MAUSTON – The Columbus Catholic softball team opened its 2024 season with a split of two nonconference games at the Woodside Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Dons rolled past Gibraltar 13-1 before being shut out by Mishicot 18-0.

Columbus Catholic scored six times in the bottom of the first inning of its game against Gibraltar, taking control early.

Akosua Yeboah earned the win, striking out 11 in a five-inning complete game, while also scoring twice and knocking in two runs for the Dons.

Sam Casperson added two hits and scored three times for Columbus.

Mishicot pitcher Kiran Sanford threw a four-inning perfect game against the Dons with 11 strikeouts.

Columbus Catholic will play its home opener Tuesday against Osseo-Fairchild. First pitch at the Marshfield Fairgrounds will be at 5 p.m.
