Auburndale baseball rolls past Neillsville in season opener

NEILLSVILLE – The Auburndale baseball team scored in five different innings and outlasted Neillsville 9-2 in a nonconference game to open its season Monday at Neillsville High School.

Aden Cherney scored on a wild pitch in the first, and Auburndale scored two more times in the second, which included an RBI double by Cherney, to take a quick 3-0 lead.

The Eagles scored six times over their final three at-bats to finish off the victory.

Cherney picked up the pitching win, striking out eight over five innings of relief, and also scored three times. Kaden Anderson and Nathan Richardson each knocked in two runs in the victory for Auburndale.

Auburndale will host Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in its Marawood Conference South Division and home opener Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.
