MARSHFIELD – Rib Lake scored twice in the first inning and never trailed as it defeated Columbus Catholic 9-4 in a nonconference softball game Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Rib Lake (6-5) led 6-2 after a three-run fourth before the Dons scratched closer in the fifth thanks to an error and an RBI groundout by Akosua Yeboah.

However, Columbus Catholic could not cash in when loading the bases in the sixth, and Rib Lake put up three more runs in the top of the seventh to pull away.

Tessa Weik had three hits and both she and Leah Chmielowiec drove in two runs in the win for Rib Lake.

Mattea Schlafke and Katelyn Casperson both had two hits for the Dons, who fall to 6-3 as they saw their four-game winning streak snapped.

Columbus Catholic will take on Loyal/Greenwood at Greenwood High School on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
