WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield fell behind 1-0 early but rallied for three straight goals and never looked back, downing Stevens Point/Wisconsin Rapids 6-2 in a Great Northern Conference girls hockey game Tuesday at South Wood Country Recreation Center.

The Tigers bounced back from a road loss to Northland Pines on Monday for the win and improved to 12-3 and 7-2 in the GNC, moving back into a tie for second place with Pines. Point/Rapids falls to 9-3 and 6-3 in the conference.

“It was a really nice win for the girls,” Marshfield coach Nate Sparbel said. “It was the first time they have ever beaten Point-Rapids in their high school careers.”

Point-Rapids took a 1-0 lead 1:32 into the game on a goal from Sarah Peplinski before Marshfield took over the game.

Kate Schumitsch and Paige Johnson scored in the first period and Chandler Roy-Peterson added an unassisted goal in the second to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

Point-Rapids closed to within a goal at the end of the second, but Marshfield responded with three straight goals again in the third – by Schumitsch and a pair from Naomi Crump.

Marshfield goalie Ashley Bauer faced just 10 shots, saving eight. Alex Gallager had 31 saves for Point-Rapids.
