Spencer girls gain big nonconference win over Edgar

EDGAR – The Spencer girls basketball team was efficient on the offensive end and scored a whopping 42 points in the second half on its way to a 71-56 nonconference win over Edgar on Monday at Edgar High School.

The Rockets shot 61.7 percent from the field (29 of 47) and had 17 assists on those 29 made shots to improve to 9-4 overall, and send Edgar to just its third loss of the season (12-3).

Courtney Schulz made 8 of 13 shots and scored 20 points, and Krystal Weier was 7 of 10 from the floor for 19 points for the Rockets. Schulz added seven rebounds and five assists, and Weier had seven assists and three steals for Spencer.

Faryn Wirkus had 21 points and four rebounds, and Holly Denfeld scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

The Rockets return to Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Thursday at Augusta.
