Spencer boys basketball whips Granton

SPENCER – Spencer outscored Granton 38-16 over the middle two quarters on its way to a 63-34 rout of the Bulldogs in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Tuesday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets led 16-12 after one quarter before blowing out the Bulldogs during the next 16 minutes.

Bryan Brodziski led Spencer, which had 10 scorers overall, with 17 points. Justin Cowell added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Steve Gilboy had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the Rockets.

The win helps Spencer keep pace with first-place Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the Cloverbelt East standings. The Dons beat Augusta 52-46 on Tuesday to improve to 11-1, while the Rockets are now 10-2 with four conference games remaining.

Jake Helgeson (21 points) and James Helgeson (12 points) combined to score 33 of the Granton’s 34 points.
