Auburndale’s Danica Harrison, Stratford’s Matt Zuelke win double titles at WIAA Division 3 Stratford track regional

STRATFORD – Auburndale’s Danica Harrison and Stratford’s Matt Zuelke each won double titles and a slew of local athletes qualified for the sectional meet on Monday at the WIAA Division 3 Track and Field Regional at Tiger Stadium.

Harrison won the girls 1,600 meters (5:38.82) and 3,200 (12:30.59), and Zuelke captured the boys 1,600 (4:45.67) and 3,200 (10:43.41) titles to move on to Thursday’s Division 3 sectional at Rosholt.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the sectional, with the top four at the sectional moving on to the WIAA State Track and Field Championships on June 3-4 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic had five girls qualify in six individual events and three boys also qualify, on top of three girls and one boys relay team.

The lone regional champion for the Dons was the boys 3,200 relay team of David Cleveland, Travis Wienke, Travis Pischel and Tyler Derfus, which won in 8:42.36.

Wienke (third in 400), Cleveland (second in 800) and Pischel (fourth in 800) qualified individually for the Columbus boys.

Spencer had three athletes qualify in six individual events, as well as the girls 3,200 relay team of Alicia Endreas, Jessica Ruhbusch, Macie Wienke and Aly Hannan (fourth) and the boys relay team of Rudy Nieman, Josh Miller, Josh Olson and Austin Mueller. The same Spencer boys team move on in three relays – the 800 (third), 400 (fourth) and 1,600 (third).

Miller was the boys only individual qualifier, taking second in the triple jump (40-6.25).

Junior Kyleigh Hebert moves on in three girls field events. She was second in the high jump (4-8),third in the long jump (14-7) and third in the triple jump (30-8.25).

Freshman Marcie Hebert won the discus (127-2) and was secod in the shot put (35-10.75).

Auburndale and Stratford had multiple other individual and relay qualifiers.

Among the multiple qualifiers for Auburndale was freshman Isaac Castellano, who took third in the 800 (2:12.88), second in the 400 (55.86) and fourth in the high jump (5-2).

Emma Steines qualified in two events for the Auburndale girls, finishing third in the triple jump (31-11.25) and fourth in the 200 (30.12).

Danielle Leffel of Stratford made it to sectionals in two events, taking third in the 800 (2:37.17) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:48.67).

Eli Temanson also won a title for the Tigers, winning the boys pole vault with a vault of 12-6.

The Stratford girls 400, 800 and 1,600 relay teams also moved on, as did all four of the boys relay teams.
