WAUSAU – Wausau West scored 17 seconds into the game and that proved to be enough as the Warriors beat Marshfield 4-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game on Tuesday.

Louis Lee scored just 17 seconds into the game off an assist by Elliott Markwardt and Dustin Buchberger added another goal for the Warriors at the 21:59 mark.

Markwardt put the game away with two goals in the second half to end the Tigers’ three-game winning streak.

Marshfield had six shots on goal, compared to West’s eight, but couldn’t sneak one into the goal.

“We had just as many opportunities as West did, the unfortunate thing was that theirs ended up in the back of the net and our’s were played into the goalkeeper,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “We played a good, sound passing game. We played as well, and at times, better than Wausau West.”

Marshfield (5-8-2, 3-5 Wisconsin Valley Conference) hosts Wausau East on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
