Assumption girls basketball stays undefeated with overtime win over Auburndale

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Auburndale held a 10-point lead after the first quarter but couldn’t hold on to the lead and eventually dropped a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 47-44 in overtime last Friday.

The Apaches led 12-2 after the first quarter only to see Assumption chip away at their lead and force overtime after the game was tied 36-36 at the end of regulation. The Royals used an 11-8 advantage in the overtime to earn the victory and stay unbeaten at 5-0 and improve to 2-0 in the Marawood South. Auburndale drops to 3-2 and 1-1 in the conference.

Nicole Nikolay scored 12 points and Sam Karl added 11 for the Apaches, which made just 13 of 34 shots from the field and were outrebounded 26-17.

Mary Sigler had 17 points and Emily Freundl had 16 points and nine rebounds for Assumption.

Auburndale plays at undefeated Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday.
