Stratford boys basketball moves to 3-0 with nonconference win over Amherst

STRATFORD – Travis Urlaub scored 11 points and the Stratford boys basketball team improved to 3-0 to start the season with a 42-36 nonconference win over Amherst on Monday at Stratford High School.

Andrew Marcis added nine points and Greg Belter had a team-high six rebounds for the Tigers.

Stratford led 24-18 at halftime and used a 12-8 fourth quarter to hold off the Falcons in Amherst’s season opener.

The Tigers were an efficient 61 percent from the field (17 of 28) and Urlaub made two of Stratford’s four 3-pointers.

Stratford hosts Pittsville in its Marawood Conference South opener on Friday.
