BLACK RIVER FALLS – Marshfield pounded out a season-high 13 hits but gave up a pair of late unearned runs and dropped an 8-7 decision to Black River Falls in a nonconference softball game Friday.

Marshfield led 7-6 after five innings before Black River Falls rallied with a pair of unearned runs against reliever Caitlin Kozik.

Katie Treankler, Taylor Hasz and Brianna Breu each had three hits for Marshfield, which drops to 0-5 on the season.

“We had as many hits in this game as we had in the previous four games combined, I think,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “We only had three strikeouts and did a good job making contact.”

Marshfield is scheduled to open its home slate on Monday with a Wisconsin Valley Conference game against Merrill at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
