Point/Rapids knocks off Marshfield in Great Northern Conference girls hockey opener

MARSHFIELD – Katrina Hassig and Rachel Metz each scored twice to lift Stevens Point/Wisconsin Rapids to a 6-1 win over Marshfield in Great Northern Conference girls hockey action on Monday at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Arena.

Point/Rapids improves to 1-1, while the Tigers fall to 0-2. The game was the GNC opener for both teams.

Hassig and Amanda Milanowski scored 1:12 apart late in the first period to put the Red Panthers up 2-0.

Metz then scored two straight goals in the first half of the second period before Hassig scored again for Point/Rapids with 4:45 left in the period.

Morgan Larson scored Marshfield’s only goal with 5:45 remaining in the game. Nell Eichten and Kaylee Geiger assisted the score.

Maddie Hall had 17 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield returns to action Friday at Northland Pines.
