VanShoick, Anderson lead Auburndale boys basketball past Northland Lutheran

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale made quick work of Northland Lutheran, outscoring the Wildcats by 24 points in the first half, and rolled to a 57-29 win in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference and knock Northland Lutheran (3-1, 1-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Auburndale center Josh VanShoick made 8 of 11 shots and scored a team-high 17 points.

Blake Anderson was 4 of 9 from 3-point range and added 16 points, point guard Isaac Castellano didn’t score but had eight assists, and Matt Nikolay had five steals for the Apaches.

Auburndale led 14-5 after the first quarter and 36-12 at halftime before winning by 28.

Michael Krueger had 18 points to lead the Wildcats.

Auburndale hosts Edgar at Thursday.
