Columbus Catholic boys basketball drops Gilman

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team got off to a quick start and blew past Gilman 50-32 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Columbus led 19-6 after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 42-25 by the end of three quarters as it cruised to the win.

The Dons are now 10-3 overall and 8-2 in the Cloverbelt East and remain in a tie for third place with Spencer, one-half game behind co-leaders Neillsville and Owen-Withee in the conference standings.

Alex Baierl drilled six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points for Columbus Catholic. Jacob Puent added 10 points for the Dons.

Columbus is back in action Tuesday at Augusta.
