MARSHFIELD – Sully Luepke and Elliot Ashbeck combined for 14 strikeouts and allowed just three runs – all unearned – and only two hits, but Marshfield couldn’t muster enough offense in a 3-1 nonconference loss to Tomah on Monday at Hackman Field.

Luepke allowed two hits and four walks in five innings, striking out nine. Ashbeck threw the final two innings for the Tigers, giving up one walk while striking out five.

Marshfield errors allowed a single run to score in the top of the first inning and two more in the third.

Colin Telin scored the Tigers’ only run pinch running for Brett Baur, who singled to lead off the second inning.

Marshfield left runners in scoring position in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Baur was 3-for-3 and Luepke went 2-for-3 for Marshfield, which had eight hits in all.

Marshfield fell to 0-4 on the season and will be back in action Friday with a doubleheader at Chippewa Falls. The Tigers open their Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule April 13 against Wausau West.
