Auburndale boys basketball holds off Abbotsford to win Marawood crossover first-place game

ABBOTSFORD – Auburndale made 22 of 27 free throws and pulled away late to knock off Abbotsford 51-40 in the first-place game of the Marawood Conference North-South Crossovers on Saturday at Abbotsford High School.

Abbotsford came back from a 25-16 halftime deficit to get to within one of the Apaches, but Auburndale used an 18-8 fourth quarter to secure the victory and finish its regular season with a 21-1 record.

Abbotsford drops to 19-2.

Blake Anderson was just 4 of 14 from the field but made 7 of 9 free throws to finish with a team-high 18 points for Auburndale. Zach Staats added 14 points, making 8 of 10 at the free throw line.

Auburndale will play the winner of Tuesday’s Bonduel-Menominee Indian game in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday at Auburndale High School.

Abbotsford will play the winner of Chequamegon and Colby in a D-4 regional semifinal on Friday at home.
