Spencer boys basketball crushes Wabeno/Laona in WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal

SPENCER – Spencer shot 49 percent and put up 48 points in the middle two quarters to blow past Wabeno-Laona 73-33 in a WIAA Division 4 boys basketball regional quarterfinal Tuesday at Spencer High School.

Spencer led 15-13 after one quarter then blew the game open by dominating the second and third quarters.

The Rockets outscored Wabeno/Laona 24-7 in the second quarter and 24-6 in the third to roll up a 63-26 advantage.

Jeremiah Cattanach scored 21 points to lead Spencer. He was 9 of 11 from the free throw line and made 6 of 11 shots from the field.

Bobby Pilz added 12 points and four steals for the Rockets.

Spencer (14-7), the sixth seed in its half of the Division 4 Sectional 2 bracket, will play at No. 3 Oconto (16-6) at 7 p.m. Friday in a regional semifinal.
