Marshfield tennis drops opener 4-3

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield won the top singles and top two doubles matches Tuesday, but lost a 4-3 decision to Menomonie in a nonconference boys tennis match to open the Tigers’ season at the Boson Courts.

Marshfield’s Nick Ackerman blanked Eli Sankey 6-0, 6-0 to start his season at No. 1 singles with a victory.

The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team of Alex Boson and Taylor Moon, and the No. 2 team of Alex Jensen and Sean Kaiser also won for Marshfield.

Boson and Moon swept Codey Sandberg and Steve Eiden 6-0, 6-2, and Jensen and Kaiser needed a tiebreaker to beat Eli Besse and John Waiter 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Marshfield’s No. 3 doubles team of Carter Havican and Phil Kibica lost in a third-set tiebreaker and the No. 2 through No. 4 singles teams lost in straight sets.

The Tigers will take part in the Eau Claire North Invitational on Saturday.
