Marshfield girls, boys both fourth at Valley indoor

STEVENS POINT – Jeremy Robinson won the triple jump (41 feet, 6 inches) and Dan Stanley took first in the 55-meter dash, winning Wisconsin Valley Conference Indoor Track Meet titles for Marshfield on Tuesday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

Both the Marshfield boys and girls finished fourth, as Stevens Point took both team titles.

The Marshfield girls 800-meter relay team of Alexa Fritsch, Gabby Myrie, Miranda Snortheim and Kelsey Weigel grabbed the Tigers’ lone win, finishing in 1:53.8.

The Tigers boys also had a pair of relay teams finish second.

Dan Drach, Colin Korlesky, Aaron Anderson and Kyle Meek finished second in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:35.45.

The Tigers 800 relay team of Stanley, Riley Gebelein, Joel Franseen and Robinson took second place in 1:34.39.

Weigel had two individual second-place finishes to continue her strong start to the season. She took second in the long jump (15-9) and the 200 (27.88).

Michelle Theisen was second in the shot put (36-6) and Myrie was second in the 55 (7.77).

“We got some super performances from the girls, most notably our three seniors Kelsey Weigel, Michelle Theisen and Ellen Stichert,” Marshfield girls coach Dan Akin said. “They stepped up big time and competed quite brilliantly today. We were fortunate to eke our fourth-place indoor finish.

“Our 800-meter relay team won the Valley title and that is a great accomplishment for the girls.”

The Marshfield boys will be back in action Tuesday, April 20 at Wausau West, and the girls are off to April 23 at the D.C. Everest Invitational.
