Marshfield finishes fifth at 2014 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Tournament

WAUSAU – Marshfield had a pair of third-place finishes and ended up fifth among the six teams at the 2014 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Thursday at Wausau West and Wausau East high schools.

The Tigers finished with 12 points in the tournament and ended up with 38 total points in combination with the regular-season schedule to take fourth-place in the overall standings.

Stevens Point had three singles champions and all three of the Panthers’ doubles teams took second to lift them to the team title with 33 points. SPASH also won the overall conference title with 99 points.

Wausau East was second with 29 points in the tournament and 77 in the overall standings.

Marshfield’s Matt McCann defeated Wausau East’s Keasha Chang 6-4, 6-4, in the third-place match at No. 4 singles, and the Tigers’ No. 3 doubles team of Bryce Gadke and Jacob Limmex beat Michael Nicklaus and Christopher Nicklaus of D.C. Everest 6-0, 6-0, to take third as well.

Hunter Schultz took fourth at No. 1 singles and the No. 3 doubles team of Ofek Brautbar and Dylan Handrich also was fourth for the Tigers.

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 subsectional Tuesday at Stevens Point.
