Auburndale’s Blake Anderson and Stratford’s Drew Spaeth were among the seven players unanimously selected to the first team of the 2014 All-Marawood Conference South Division Baseball Team.
Anderson, a senior, hit .400 (8 of 20) and was 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA as a pitcher, striking out 25 in 18 1/3 innings.
Spaeth, also a senior, struck out 26 in 23 1/3 innings, going 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA as a pitcher, and batted .227 with Tigers’ lone home run of the conference season.
Stratford seniors Dillan Zaleski and Darrin Luepke were also named to the first team.
Zaleski batted .333 with a team-high eight RBIs, and Luepke hit. 375 with six runs scored.
Auburndale junior Paul Willfahrt and Stratford junior Dawson Gebelein were named to the second team.
Auburndale’s Wyatt Weiler and Logan Willfahrt, and Stratford’s Joe Redman and Jake Schmitt were honorable mention selections.
Marathon’s Ryan Gassner was named Player of the Year, and Stratford’s Brad Grube was picked as Coach of the Year in his first year as head coach of the Tigers.
Gassner, a sophomore, struck out 70 in 40 innings, going a perfect 6-0 with a 1.23 ERA as a pitcher for conference-champion Marathon. He batted .409 with eight runs scored and six RBIs.
