Loyal knocks off Columbus baseball

LOYAL – Loyal scored nine runs in the first two innings and finished it off with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 14-4 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday at Loyal High School.

Trailing 6-1 after the first inning, the Dons rallied with three runs in the second, but couldn’t muster another run against Loyal pitcher Cale Cuddie, who struck out 14 and walked nine.

Columbus (1-6 overall and Cloverbelt East) had four hits, including a double by Charlie Mayeux.

Mike Iwanski took the loss, walking 11 and allowing eight hits.

Columbus plays at Spencer on Friday.
