Auburndale baseball ends long losing streak

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale baseball team ended a 14-game losing streak Thursday, beating Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 9-5 in a Marawood Conference South Division game.

Austin Hawkins threw a complete game to earn the win, striking out five and walking four.

Kyle Willfahrt, Tony Altmann and Scott Marx each had two hits for the Apaches, who end their regular season with a 3-17 overall record and a 2-12 mark in conference action. All three had doubles and Willfahrt connected for a home run.

Willfahrt had two RBIs and two runs scored, and Marx also had two RBIs for Auburndale.

The Apaches will play at Amherst in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal on May 28, with the winner moving on to a regional semifinal June 1 at No. 1 seed Stevens Point Pacelli.
