Marshfield grad Fagbemi grabs two top-five finishes at Big Ten meet

Oladipo Fagbemi, a 2009 graduate of Marshfield High School, recently competed for the University of Minnesota at the NCAA Track and Field Preliminary Meet in Austin, Texas at the University of Texas.

Fagbemi, a freshman for the Gophers, had a jump of 49 feet, 5 inches, to finish 30th out of 48 competitors on Saturday at Texas. The top 12 finishers move on to the NCAA Championships on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.

Fagbemi was part of the Big Ten Conference outdoor championship team for the Gophers. At the Big Ten Championships at the University of Indiana on May 14-16, Fagbemi tied for second with teammate Raymond Blackledge in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 2 inches. Kyron Foster of Michigan State won the event with a jump of 51-5 ¾.

Minnesota, which also won the Big Ten indoor meet, totaled 145 points, with Wisconsin second with 124 points.

Fagbemi, a WIAA Division 1 state champion in the triple jump and long jump last June, finished fourth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with a long jump of 23-feet, 7 ½ inches.
