STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team clamped down defensively against first-place Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, but it couldn’t muster enough offense and dropped a 42-39 decision to the Royals on Friday night at Stratford High School.

With the victory, Assumption improves to 13-2 overall and remains perfect at 9-0 in the Marawood Conference South Division. The Royals need only one more victory in their final three conference games to secure at least a share of their first conference title since 2009.

Stratford is now 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Assumption led 22-18 at halftime and held off the Tigers at the end.

Stratford shot just 37 percent (17 of 45) from the field and missed all three of its free throw attempts.

Brenden Fecker led Stratford with 13 points, making three 3-pointers.

Stratford will play at Loyal in a nonconference game Monday.
