Auburndale boys basketball wins at Marathon in battle of Marawood South leaders

MARATHON – The Auburndale boys basketball team pulled into sole possession of first place in the Marawood Conference South Division with a 56-52 victory over Marathon on Tuesday at Marathon High School.

The game was tied at 28-28 at halftime before Auburndale was able to pull out the win with a four-point advantage in the second half.

Auburndale is now 14-3 overall and 10-2 in the Marawood South. Marathon drops into a three-way tie for second with Stratford and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in the conference standings at 9-3 (14-3 overall).

The Apaches made 15 of 18 free throws and hit five 3-pointers in the victory.

Cale Jacoby scored 12 points, and Cameron Ertl and Cason Schmutzer each had 10 for Auburndale.

Carter Hanke had 21 points for Marathon.

Auburndale plays at Rib Lake on Friday in a Marawood Conference crossover game.
