Spencer boys need OT to beat Augusta

AUGUSTA – Spencer charged back from an early eight-point deficit to force overtime, then went on to beat Augusta 43-38 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Tuesday at Augusta High School.

The win pushes the Rockets (8-2 overall, 8-1 Cloverbelt East) into a first-place tie with Marshfield Columbus Catholic. The Dons lost at home to Colby 65-40 on Tuesday, dropping them to 8-1 in the conference.

Spencer trailed 10-2 after the first quarter and slowly came back. The Rockets closed regulation with a 12-4 run in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Steve Gilboy scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Tyler Kolstad and Bryan Brodziski each scored eight points for the Rockets. Kolstad added seven rebounds and six steals.

Casey Reetz scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Augusta (6-6, 3-6 Cloverbelt East).

Spencer plays at home against Owen-Withee on Friday, and has a matchup for the conference lead with Columbus next Thursday at Columbus.
