PITTSVILLE – The Auburndale cross country teams swept both team titles at the Pittsville Invitational on Thursday at Pittsville High School.
The Auburndale girls had the top four finishers, including meet champion Jordyn Karl, to easily win the team title with 17 points. Wisconsin Rapids Assumption was a distant second with 59 points. Spencer finished fourth with 113 and Marshfield Columbus Catholic was sixth with 160.
Karl won in 23:05.6, edging three teammates who all finished within 1.1 seconds of each other, about 13 seconds behind her. Mckenna Zieher was second (23:18.6), Erricka Zenner took third (23:19.5) and Macie Schmeiser finished fourth (23:18.7) for the Apaches.
In addition, Auburndale had three other top-10 finishes as Vanessa Mitchell took seventh (24:17.9), Autumn Richardson was eighth (24:14.17), and Lily Kloos took ninth (24:41.2).
Emily Wehrman was Spencer’s top runner, taking 15th in 25:56.7 and Janelle Haupt topped Columbus Cahtolic with a 24th-place finish in 27:28.0.
The Auburndale boys had its top five runners finish in the top 11 and ended up with 27 points, 24 ahead of second-place Wauzeka-Steuben. Spencer was fifth with 117 and Columbus Catholic had only four runners and didn’t figure in the team standings.
Garrett Dolan of Assumption won the boys race in 17:07.4.
Carl Lundgren took third (18:45.6), Charles Jewell was fourth (19:26.6), Ian Lang took eighth (20:21.0), Gavin White Eagle was ninth (20:44.1) and Parker Empey finished 11th (20:57.9) for the Apaches.
Ashton Ackman was 18th in 21:51.6 and Cameron Nieman finished 20th in 22:00.4 to lead Spencer.
Columbus Catholic’s top runner as Andrew Scheer, who finished 13th in 21:04.1.
Columbus Catholic will host its annual invitational at Wildwood Park on Saturday.
